An update which is long overdue...
A lot has happened over these past couple of years. Tyke passed on late in April 2008. I mourned him for over a year. Then a new "wind" came into town...
In 2009 I took it upon me to adopt a Spanish greyhound, a "galgo". This sweet creature by the name of Brisa ("breeze") was welcomed into our home in September 2009. She had probably been beaten by her owner once she wasn't able to hunt for him anymore. Her right front paw was broken. Of course the fracture healed, but as it was left untreated, the bones did not set properly.
Enter "caza" and "galgos" in Youtube. You'll easily find what these poor dogs have to do to earn a living, as long as they are quick enough to catch the hare.
Last year, in June 2010, she was joined by Nina. She stayed at the shelter for almost a year, because very few people like to adopt a black greyhound. Go figure... Now, they are a happy couple:

A few tips:
- after your dog has died, don't take a new one too soon, give yourself time to mourn: it took me over a year, you'll feel when you're ready
- if you can, perhaps consider adopting a shelter dog, puppies from even well-intentioned breeders may also have their shortcomings
- it's better to choose a dog that is a bit older, say 4 years: with a dog between 1 and 2 years of age the probability of it being a problem dog is higher.
Anyway, I'm very happy with my beautiful ladies, and I hope to have them around for many years to come.
